How to make pickled turnips

The method
Vegetable Preparation: Peel the turnips and cut them into thick slices or sticks. Peel the beets and cut them into thin slices. Prepare the pickling brine: Mix the water, vinegar, salt, and sugar together and stir well until the salt dissolves. You can boil the water and then cool it to sterilize it, but this step is optional. Filling: Place the beetroot slices and garlic (if using) in the bottom of a clean glass jar. Add the turnip slices on top. Adding the liquid: Pour the water and vinegar mixture over the turnips until they are completely submerged. Cover the jar tightly. Pickling: Place the jar in a cool, dark place (or in the refrigerator). Leave it for 5 to 10 days, depending on the desired degree of pickling. The longer you leave it, the more intense the flavor and color will be. Important Notes: The beautiful pink color comes from the beets alone; no dye is needed. Make sure all pieces are fully submerged in the liquid to prevent spoilage. Refrigerate pickles after opening.
