Udhiyah refers to the ritual slaughter of specific livestock (camels, cattle, or sheep) during the days of Eid al-Adha, from after the Eid prayer until sunset on the 13th of Dhul-Hijjah. It is a great act of worship that honors the symbols of Allah.
• Udhiyah is a highly recommended Sunnah for those who are financially able. • The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever has the means and does not offer a sacrifice, let him not come near our prayer place.” [Ibn Majah]
1. Reviving the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was willing to sacrifice his son until Allah replaced him with a ram. 2. Honoring Allah’s rituals, as in the verse: “Whoever honors the symbols of Allah – indeed, it is from the piety of the hearts.” [Al-Hajj: 32] 3. Act of devotion and submission to Allah’s commands. 4. Expressing gratitude for Allah’s blessings. 5. Supporting the poor and spreading joy in the community.
• Must be from livestock (camel, cow, or sheep). • Must reach the prescribed age. • Must be free from major defects. • Must be slaughtered in the proper time frame. • Must be done with the intention of sacrifice.
