Udhiyah (sacrifice) is one of the great rituals of Islam performed during Eid al-Adha. For a sacrifice to be valid and accepted, Islamic law outlines specific conditions that must be fulfilled in the animal offered.
🐄 1. The Animal Must Be from Livestock (Bahimat al-An'am)
• The animal must belong to one of the following categories:
o Camels
o Cattle
o Sheep (lambs and goats)
• Sacrifice is not valid if the animal is not from these types.📆 2. The Animal Must Have Reached the Prescribed Age
• The minimum required age differs based on the type of animal:
o Sheep (lamb): 6 months or older
o Goat: 1 year or older
o Cow: 2 years or older

• The sacrificial animal must be free from defects that render it unacceptable, such as:
o Obvious blindness in one or both eyes
o Severe illness
o Lameness that prevents walking normally

• The valid time for sacrifice starts after the Eid al-Adha prayer on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah and ends at sunset on the 13th.
• A sacrifice done before the Eid prayer or after the 13th is not valid.🤝 5. Proper Intention (Niyyah)
• The sacrifice must be done with the intention of seeking closeness to Allah.
• The intention should be in the heart; verbalizing it is not obligatory.🏠 6. Sharing in Sacrifice (Only for Cows and Camels)
• It is permissible to share in the sacrifice of cows and camels:
o Up to seven people can share one cow or camel.
o Each participant must intend to offer the sacrifice for the sake of Allah.

• Mentioning the name of Allah and saying “Bismillah, Allahu Akbar”
• Facing the animal toward the Qiblah (direction of prayer)
• Being gentle and minimizing the animal’s suffering
