When the Ottomans arrived in the region, they found a fisherman by the river. They asked him the name of the place, but he misunderstood and thought they were asking his name, so he replied 'Wow'. The Ottomans assumed it was the name of the place and adopted it, a mistake left uncorrected. The beauty of this name is that it conveys people's amazement when they first visit, often exclaiming (Wow) or even (Waaaawon) to match their level of astonishment. In the local dialect, the people of the area are called (Nash of the area), so those from 'Wow' become Nash 'Wow', and those from 'Juba' become Nash 'Juba'. In our dialect, 'Nash Wow' are 'Wow People'! I will love this city and its people more as I get to know them. I will carry my love for it for many years, never fading from my heart. Yet, right now, I am angry. Is this how 'Wow' and its people repay my affection... with mines, with a mountain of mines?
