Many sociologists attribute the stagnation of social conditions in our country to the family structure governed by religious laws, with its inherent inequality in rights between men and women, and among different sects. As long as it remains impossible to address the authority of personal status laws and their content, Lebanese women will remain second-class citizens, violence against women and girls will continue to be common and silenced, and a culture of gender discrimination will remain active in our educational systems, media, and values. Hence, the role of women's organizations is an urgent necessity to work towards changing this reality.
