Since writing remains a key tool for interpreting the world around us, and the only truly effective one, Tunisian author Hadhbaa Ali Al-Ghuwaili skillfully creates a thoughtful character capable of discussing a range of issues from different dimensions—social, political, and personal/feminine. Her novel 'Woman Without Desire' and its extraordinary protagonist, Shahd, offer insights about women who perceive love as a trap disguised as happiness, desire as a trap disguised as pleasure, wealth as a trap disguised as prestige, and power as a trap disguised as control. Shahd, an intellectual girl who only plays by her rules, believes in the motto: 'If you don’t overcome yourself, others will overcome you. Thus, learn to triumph over yourself to avoid being defeated by others.' Consequently, Shahd leaves her family home in Ain Draham, driven by a dream to achieve something far from an unwanted reality, yearning for freedom and expression. She establishes herself as a presenter and report reader on multiple TV channels inside and outside the country and earns numerous awards and honors. Yet, 'she never had a private meeting away from prying eyes or a rendezvous with the sea's whispers' until time offers her a unique gift—unexpectedly encountering 'the man with the long shadow' at the office, the one her heart chooses, marking the start of a new chapter in her life. From the narrative atmosphere: 'The man with the long shadow woke up wiping tears from his eyes, realizing his dream required no interpretation. He quickly checked on the baby, who bore a strong resemblance to his mother, kissed him, and sighed. He handed the baby to the grandmother and returned to Shahd, sitting on the edge of the bed as he used to before their marriage.
