From the introduction: Among the atheistic doubts raised concerning God's essence—may He be glorified—is the question about the wisdom behind the Lord's request for worship. It is a question that seeks meaning in an act not linked to a benefit like those that motivate human actions. This question is commonly phrased as: Why does God ask us to worship Him when He is not in need of worship? What does the Creator gain from prayers, supplications, and fasting? Is the request for worship not a sign of imperfection and an indication of need? Then the question 'ascends' to another level, asking about the wisdom of creating humans in the first place. If the skeptic is told that man was created for worship, he replies disapprovingly: 'And how does the Lord benefit from His creation's worship of Him?', returning us to the first question: 'And what does God gain from our worship of Him?' And when the questioner's soul is stretched to its limit, he says emotionally, angrily: 'Why didn't God ask me if I wanted to exist?'
