Al-Rajaz is a well-known meter in Arabic poetry. Poems written in this meter are called "arajiz" (singular: "urjuza"), and the poet is called a "rajiz." The word "rajaz" also refers to a disease that affects camels, causing their thighs to tremble when they stand up. This poetic meter was named "rajaz" because it features an alternating sequence of movement and stillness (vowel and sukun), resembling the trembling of a camel's leg afflicted with this condition. Rajaz poetry was widespread during the pre-Islamic (Jahiliyyah) and Islamic periods, and poets used it extensively to compose their poems and record their lineages and noble deeds.
