We have before us a distinguished work in its field, noble in its subject, the book "Wa 'Alamat" (And Signs). It is a comprehensive encyclopedia for mastering the similar verses (mutashabihat) and what proves challenging for students in Quranic script, vocalization, and grammar. The author has distinguished this work in several ways, most notably by quoting the term "Wa 'Alamat" from the Holy Quran, highlighting the term's close connection to the book's subject. He also included an introduction of over one hundred pages titled: 'Not Just an Introduction, but a Love Story and a Life's Journey,' where he speaks of his two-decade-long aspiration to produce a book that traces the similar verses of the Holy Quran, verse by verse, context by context, and word by word, especially those that frequently confuse those eager to memorize the Holy Quran.

The author then recounts his long journey with memorizing the Holy Quran, which had many stages. The first stage, the 'starting point,' was when he memorized the Quran as a young boy. His sheikh, Dr. Ahmed Eid Al-Aghoury, introduced him to a book on mastering similar verses called 'Awn Al-Rahman fi Mutashabih Al-Quran' by Abu Dharr Al-Qalamouni, which had a profound impact on directing his attention to mastering verbal similarities.

The importance of mastering verbal similarities became clear to the author when he led prayers during Tarawih, as it is one of the most crucial factors for an Imam's fluency. Leading prayers itself was a key reason for perfecting his memorization and mastery of similar verses. This was followed by a stage of refining and perfecting his memorization through teaching the Holy Quran, a pressing need right after his university graduation. A key feature of his Quranic circle was guiding students to the points of verbal similarity that beginners need.

Before detailing the book's specific topics, the author provides illuminating signs and beacons for the reader on mastering and memorizing the Quran's similar verses. Among them are:

  • The Centrifugal Force Rule: High repetition in a short time = separation and differentiation of verbal similarities.
  • Identical Twins: The subtle differences between similar contexts are only confusing to those who do not look closely at the Mushaf.
  • Narration (Sard): The Quran is only retained through repetition, and the ability to recite without stopping is a sure sign of skill and mastery.
  • Memorization Strength is Inversely Proportional to the Number of Similarities: The stronger the memorization, the fewer the similarities seem, and vice versa.
  • Books on similar verses are for you and others; do not be discouraged by the number of issues you see. Benefit from what you urgently need.
  • Your knowledge of similar verses is not proof of your mastery of Quran memorization. Conversely, it doesn't harm you if you can't answer, as long as you can recite the Quran from memory.
  • Well-digested food is absorbed faster: Likewise, an understood piece of information settles quickly in the memory.

The author then explains the effort put into his book: 'In this book, I have distilled many books for you, spent ages collecting, arranging, and writing it... I have spent nearly ten years producing this book, "Wa 'Alamat", because I was writing it during my day and before sleep due to other scholarly commitments. So, don't wait for a day free of preoccupations, but seek God's help and seize every minute; for a flood is but the gathering of drops.'
