While accepting condolences at her late grandmother's house, the granddaughter-narrator discovers a mysterious man who expressed great regret for his late arrival, especially since he wanted to deliver a file concerning the grandmother. During an extended conversation with him in the garden under the pergola, the narrator is shocked to uncover a hidden side of her grandmother's radiant personality. Suddenly, behind the idealized image, another more enigmatic and ambiguous picture emerges. Her novel "Under the Pergola" received the Phoenix Prize in 2009 and the Richelieu Prize in 2011.
