The author proposes in this book a project for a new renaissance of the left in the Arab world following significant setbacks and retreats experienced by the left in recent decades, especially after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the socialist experiment in general. His approach is based on his extensive experience in political and intellectual work, as he is one of the prominent figures of the Marxist movement in Lebanon and the Arab world. He suggests a set of principles and ideas he deems necessary for the recovery of the left from its current crisis. He emphasizes the importance of non-ideological analysis of the changes and transformations occurring in the contemporary world in order to extract essential elements for the new left to determine its goals and methods of struggle. The book includes selected texts in its final section from classic Marxists: Marx, Engels, Lenin, Plekhanov, Rosa Luxemburg, and Gramsci. Karim Mroue, a Marxist political thinker, joined communism since his early youth. He was elected to leadership positions in the Lebanese Communist Party and undertook various party responsibilities over four decades. He devoted himself to writing after retiring from committed daily political work. His writings are characterized by critique and self-critique. He is concerned with major transformations occurring globally and constantly seeks the path leading to a better future for his country, Lebanon, and other Arab countries.
