Time of White Horses is a grand epic novel in which poet and novelist Ibrahim Nasrallah ventures into territory previously unexplored by novels addressing the Palestinian cause with such comprehensiveness and scope. He presents a counter-narrative to the Zionist story of "a land without a people for a people without a land."

The novel's events begin in the last quarter of the nineteenth century and extend to the year of the Nakba, engaging with the major turning points of this tumultuous and multifaceted period. It depicts the bitter conflict between Palestinian farmers on one side, and rural and urban leaders, the Ottomans, the British, Jewish immigrants, and Arab leadership on the other. It is the story of a real people of flesh and blood who lived on a real land, with a heritage and details too numerous to count and a vibrant existence filled with clamor, tension, joy, tragedy, and sorrow.

The protagonist says, "I do not fight to win, but so that my right is not lost. It has never happened that a nation remained victorious forever. I fear one thing: that we break forever, because one who breaks forever can never rise again. Tell them to be careful not to be defeated forever."

As is customary in Ibrahim Nasrallah's works, this novel blends epic, folktale, oral testimony, song, and cinematic language. Amidst this, the daily life of Palestinians in villages and cities comes to the forefront, occupying a vast human landscape rich with tales of heroism, love, life, death, betrayal, purity, mercy, and cruelty. Meanwhile, the mythology of the horse illuminates the deepest corners of the characters' souls and the great values of a society vibrant in its rituals, stories, and songs.
