The computer is a product of contemporary scientific and technical progress, and at the same time, it is one of the pillars driving this progress. This has recently made it a focus of attention for educators and those interested in the teaching and learning process. Educational systems have embraced the computer, advocating for its use in both school administration and teaching.

Methods of using computers in education have evolved, and the focus is now on developing the methods used in computer-assisted teaching or creating new methods through which the computer can contribute to achieving and supporting some curriculum objectives. Its use in teaching all subjects, especially mathematics, science, and others, is notable. There is a lot of educational software, including some currently available Arabic educational software with many scientific and pedagogical features in its design, made to suit our students, teachers, and curricula. This may be because the development in education is continuous, and educational institutions must keep pace with this progress by providing expertise and specializations to make this learning correct, sound, and purposeful.

Rabeeh Mustafa Alian defines the computer as "an electronic device designed to receive, store, and process data by converting data into usable information and extracting the required results for decision-making." Abdel Azim Abdel Salam Al-Farjani defines the computer as "a machine for processing information and computational data according to an electronic system, using a special language, and this machine can execute many stored commands at very high speed."

Its use has become common recently in various fields of life, and it has proven high efficiency that saved effort, time, and costs, which helped in thinking about benefiting from its capabilities in educational fields. The computer has been given several names in Arabic, including (Al-Hasib Al-Ali, Al-Hasib Al-Elektroni, and Al-Hasoub), meaning to calculate, as its name is derived from the English verb 'to compute'. It was also called the 'electronic brain'. The truth is that although the computer is mainly based on mathematical logic, it now performs both mathematical and non-mathematical processing, and hence it is not just a calculator.

The computer user sees accuracy, proficiency, speed of completion, multiple capabilities, and ease of use. It executes human commands for all operations but only performs the functions pre-programmed for it. This device is considered one of the most important features of the modern era, as everything around us can be managed through it. It is used in all bodies and educational institutions. It is a tool in the hands of humans, who can either use it well or misuse it.
