The Stranger (L'Étranger) is the first novel by French author Albert Camus, published in 1942. It belongs to the absurdist movement in literature and is part of his "Cycle of the Absurd," which also includes the essay "The Myth of Sisyphus" and the plays "Caligula" and "The Misunderstanding." These works collectively describe the foundations of Camus's philosophy of the absurd.
