The science of Hadith (Ilm al-Hadith) is one of the sciences unique to the Islamic nation. It is a comprehensive study of the Prophet's Hadith in terms of its chain of transmission (isnad) and its text (matn). It encompasses various types of Hadith science, such as the science of Hadith terminology (Mustalah al-Hadith), also known as the principles of Hadith (Usul al-Hadith), which examines the subject of Hadith transmission, narration, the text of the Hadiths, and the reported traditions. Other branches include studying the jurisprudential rulings of Hadith, its exegesis, understanding the concepts of the Prophetic Sunnah, and identifying the abrogating and abrogated texts. The science of Hadith is not limited to transmission and narration but also includes understanding all that the Messenger brought from Allah, as knowledge of Islamic law is derived from understanding the Prophetic Hadith.
