The novel's events begin when Umm Sayyid Imran asks him to drive Kawkab home late at night. Desiring her and imagining she envies his wife for his masculinity, he attempts to rape her. However, a passing soldier discovers the act, calls the police, and prevents the man from escaping. During the investigation, the woman accuses the man of rape, while he claims it was a 'noble love affair'!

The novel's chapters alternate in narrating events, some taking place in the present and others in the past, spanning locations in Bahrain and Iran. It is characterized by extreme boldness in exposing the behaviors of some 'religious' individuals and the conflict between the enlightened and those who claim purity and chastity.

The novel is distinguished by its conciseness and intensity in storytelling, shifting between reality and possibility or assumption, and leans in some of its scenes towards the bizarre and mysterious in description and narration.
