No era in Arab history has garnered as much attention from historians and researchers as the history of the Abbasid state. Historians from that time to the present day have continued to write about various aspects of its political, economic, religious, and social life. Nevertheless, many of these aspects still require further study and analysis. The topic of the political will in the Abbasid era is one such subject that has not been sufficiently addressed in academic studies. The scope of this book is specifically limited to the first Abbasid era, based on the premise that the political will derived its strength and influence from the power of the Caliphate. Its role in shaping the policies of the Abbasid caliphs began to diminish once army commanders and statesmen started to interfere in the affairs of the Caliphate.
