Dr. (Joseph) Youssef Rashdan Elian, born in Rashmaya, Mount Lebanon. Elementary and intermediate studies in Rashmaya and Chartoun. High school education at the National University - Aley. Holds a bachelor's degree and a postgraduate diploma in geography from the Lebanese University. Obtained an advanced studies diploma and a Ph.D. in geography from Aix-Marseille II Academy - Aix-en-Provence, France. He is a professor of physical geography at the Lebanese University and one of the founders of its branches in the North. He participated in developing the new educational curricula at the Educational Center for Research. Author and supervisor of the new geography curriculum series at the Educational Center for Research and Dar Al-Maktabah Al-Ahliyah. He has conducted research in physical geography and the history of Arab sciences. A founding member and president of the Lebanese Association for the History of Arab Sciences from 2011-2015. He published a novel titled: Slightly Salty Water. He is married to Hend Nasser Al-Qattan, and they have four children: Amal, Zina, Mai, and Jad.
