In 'The Notebooks of Mihyar of Damascus,' the unity between Adonis the poet and Mihyar the symbol appears more detailed, clearer, and delves deeper into questioning the forbidden, the repressed, the postponed, and the intimately private—everything connected to passions, desires, and longings. The writing becomes more vertical, the field of knowledge more expansive and purely transparent. Modes of expression draw closer to the flash and the fragment, to the spark and the fleeting thought, responding to the transient, intermittent, and sudden explosions within this dense, lost, encircled, tormented, ambitious, faltering, attacking, invading, imitating, and innovating body called Arab life.

Adonis is a Syrian poet, born in 1930 in the village of Qassabin, Syria. He adopted the name Adonis, after the Phoenician myth, departing from traditional Arab naming conventions since 1948. With Yusuf al-Khal, he co-founded the magazine 'Shi'r' (Poetry) in 1975. He later founded the magazine 'Mawaqif' between 1969 and 1994. He has been a visiting professor at universities and research centers in France, Switzerland, the United States, and Germany. He has received numerous international awards and honors, and his works have been translated into many languages. His publications with Dar al-Saqi include: 'The Static and the Dynamic,' 'The Divan of Arabic Prose,' 'The Divan of Arabic Poetry,' and 'The Black Ocean'.
