The New Cairo is a novel by Egyptian author Naguib Mahfouz, first published in 1945 and adapted into a film in 1966 directed by Salah Abu Seif. The novel discusses various social issues and is the first novel Mahfouz wrote about Cairo. From this work, Mahfouz began adopting the style of social realism.
