In this book, the author—a consultant and experienced professor in the surgery department at the University of Baghdad from 1954 to 2003—lays out the correct path for medical students and junior doctors, detailing the proper steps to achieve their specialization goals. He also addresses the hardships, difficulties, and obstacles encountered on this journey, which must be overcome with patience, self-confidence, study, persistence, and learning from the experience and practice of his preceding professors. This may be considered a plan of action rather than a biography in any sense.
The book contains some of the rare and interesting medical cases that the author or his colleagues encountered at the beginning of their long careers. It also presents models and examples of specialists from various fields, outlining the paths they took to achieve their desired goals.
The author's primary aim is to highlight the pioneering role of the Arab Board of Health Specializations and other medical councils across the Arab world in training and educating candidates to obtain their degrees in various medical branches. This has provided an alternative to traveling to the West, with all its associated risks and the potential for being lost to permanent expatriation. Instead, it encourages them to stay in their home countries to achieve their aspirations among their families and Arab society, thanks to the establishment and development of these medical councils through the efforts of dedicated professionals. This is a remarkable Arab achievement that contemporary Arab history records with great pride.
