I endeavored to write about the Makahleh clan in Jordan when I could not find anyone who had written about its history and heritage with documented information. The writing methodology was not to create a lineage for the clan or to search for past glories for the reader to dwell on, but rather to connect past events with the present to arrive at a documented reference for the lineage, history, locations, and social and institutional organization of the Makahleh clan.

Part of this reference was drawn from the accounts of the clan's elders, as well as from what genealogists and historians have written about the origins of the Makahleh clans in general. On the other hand, it also utilized what modern sciences have revealed in terms of scientific methods for uncovering lineage, and the use of some of these scientific means to uncover the lineage of the Makahleh clan in Jordan.

In researching the ancestry and lineage of the Makahleh clan, I followed an approach that combined the concepts of legal lineage and social lineage. I took the concept of legal lineage from the texts of the Holy Quran, and the concept of social lineage—for acquaintance, compassion, and social solidarity—from the hadiths of the Prophet and his Companions.

The evolution of the meaning of lineage through the ages—from its social to its legal and then to its statutory concept—was clarified to prevent lineage from being merely a turning of the pages of the past of tribes and clans. Instead, the aim was to apply reason to develop this social science, making it flexible enough to suit contemporary social reality. This benefits from the influences brought by modern social sciences, ancillary medical sciences, and positive laws, which have changed the traditional concept of lineage, aiming to make this social science a contemporary one.
