In February 1905, in Moscow, a group of terrorists from the Socialist Revolutionary Party organized an assassination of Grand Duke Sergei, the Tsar's uncle. This operation, its surrounding circumstances, and its consequences are the subject of the play "The Just." While some situations in the play may seem exceptional, they are historically authentic. This does not mean "The Just" is a historical drama, but all the characters are real and acted as documented. The author aimed to portray the events realistically, retaining the hero's real name (Kaliayev), not from a lack of imagination, but out of respect for these men and women who lived through immense injustice, maintained their resilience, and achieved remarkable progress. The hatred that burdened these resistant souls became an unbearable norm, providing another reason to bring these great spirits to life and tell the story of their justified rebellion, their difficult brotherhood, and their arduous efforts against tyranny, thus revealing their true faith.
