Study Objectives: The need for a comprehensive and practical Islamic methodology in our contemporary life is evident from the state of loss and underdevelopment experienced by our Arab world in many areas of its intellectual and practical life. The need for a comprehensive and applicable Islamic management theory for our various organizations—institutions, companies, factories, and bodies—is evidenced by the state of administrative backwardness these organizations suffer from, and the state of loss and confusion among Arab management thinkers, professors, and students. This is clearly visible in the shift from adopting one foreign Western management theory to another Eastern one, forgetting the different circumstances of our Arab-Islamic society compared to the societies where those Western or Eastern theories originated. This is in addition to the necessity of linking religious sense to work, considering that work and worship are intertwined, and the loss of religious sense in work means more tension and nervous exhaustion within the work organization.

Accordingly, the importance of this study lies in it being the first to definitively establish and clearly define the Islamic Management Theory, unlike other studies. While we do not deny the merit of many of them, none have mentioned the sources of this theory or its derivation; rather, most dealt with management in Islam as a system or thought. This study aims to contribute to finding scientific administrative solutions—originating from the Arab community—for the administrative problems faced by organizations, regardless of their activity (private, public, cooperative, sports, etc.) and their location across our great Arab nation. In addition to enriching Arab administrative thought with a theory of Arab origin, this study, by presenting the Islamic Management Theory, will undoubtedly be a purely Arab contribution to global administrative thought.

The Nature of the Theory: The Islamic Management Theory is not merely a set of creedal legislations that form Islamic positions on contemporary management. It is also part of a comprehensive Islamic theory derived from an integrated creed with a defined methodology and goal, from which the Islamic theory in all its intellectual fields—in all fields of human and social sciences—is generated. Deriving the Islamic Management Theory away from its creedal origins will only lead to more ambiguity and confusion. As such, the derivation of administrative thought in Islam is the specialty of not only administrative researchers but also jurists, scholars of jurisprudence, politics, economics, sociology, and human behavior in Islam. Furthermore, research in Islamic administration will not only benefit administrators but also thinkers concerned with the heritage of Islamic thought and its applications in our contemporary life.

Study Contents: This study is divided into three parts and eight chapters:

  • Part One: Addresses the foundations of the Islamic Management Theory through three chapters. Chapter one discusses the creedal basis. Chapter two deals with the legislative basis. Chapter three covers the human and ethical basis of human behavior.
  • Part Two: Focuses on deriving the theory from the creed—especially from the Holy Quran—through three chapters. Chapter four serves as an introduction to the derivation. Chapter five presents the creedal derivation of the theory through organization, its foundations, rules of conduct, methodological facts, and principles of work. Chapter six is dedicated to the features and characteristics of the Islamic Management Theory.
  • Part Three: Briefly reviews modern administrative theories, movements, and approaches (schools) through two chapters. Chapter seven presents modern theories such as Scientific Management, Human Relations, modern Behavioral, and Bureaucratic theories. The final chapter, Chapter eight, briefly presents modern administrative approaches, followed by a conclusion summarizing these theories and the reasons for their failure.
