The Grammatical Amal 4/1 comprises nearly exclusive notes on grammar, with some explanations and linguistic and literary benefits. Ibn al-Hajib dictated them to his students, who recorded them during various sessions between 609 AH and 626 AH in Cairo, Damascus, and Jerusalem. They arranged them into six sections and mentioned, in some, the place and date of dictation.
