The efforts of Muhammad Rashid Rida in serving the Sunnah highlight him as an Islamic thinker and a pioneer of Islamic reform at the start of the 14th century Hijri. He was a student of Sheikh Muhammad Abduh and established the magazine Al-Manar, modeled after the magazine 'Al-Urwah Al-Wuthqa' founded by Imam Muhammad Abduh. Hassan Al-Banna is considered most influenced by Rashid Rida.
