Thus, the oasis departs from its traditional meaning, becoming for the desert dweller a prelude to surrendering freedom. He speaks of the oasis and goes to die in the desert. As for the survivors fleeing the curse of thirst after the Atlantis well runs dry, they face harsher and more severe torments. The rain does not fall, black scorpions attack the oasis, the oasis leader conspires against Sheikh Ghoma, Bata steals Isis, and the people are forced to migrate from the oasis once again. All of this is set against a backdrop of events linked to Ottoman colonialism, the beginning of the Italian occupation, and the impact of these incidents on the oasis and the tribe.
