The goal of this thesis is to explore how Muslim, Christian, and Jewish students interact on a university campus, and whether such an environment presents challenges to their faith or reinforces it. This is examined in relation to their academic courses, interactions with peers, and participation in religious societies or bodies. The thesis also explores students' interactions with "New Atheism," a movement associated with a group of provocative writers (Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens) who agree that religion is irrational, flawed, and fraught with evil. Richard Dawkins, described as the leading proponent of New Atheism, recently supported the Atheist Society at University College London in their dispute with the Student Union over posting a satirical cartoon on their Facebook account. The research that forms the basis of this thesis was conducted between 2011 and 2013.
