This study combines the concept of suicide with that of martyrdom. These concepts form a conceptual duality derived from a human occurrence composed of three basic elements: an individual, an act performed by the individual, and the death of the person as a result of the act. Although this human occurrence is universal, present across all societies and historical periods, forming a singular event from which the conceptual duality is derived, each part of the duality represents a distinct concept.
