The Compilation of Texts in Quran Recitation is a guide on the art of Tajweed, which in Islam refers to the science of the correct pronunciation of Quranic words, as they were articulated by the Prophet Muhammad. It is learned orally from a scholar or instructor who is certified to teach Tajweed. The beginnings of Tajweed trace back to the expansion of the Islamic state in the 3rd century Hijri, where errors in Quranic recitation became frequent due to the influx of non-Arabs converting to Islam. Quranic scholars responded by documenting the rules and regulations of Tajweed. It is said that the first to compile the rules of Tajweed in a book was Imam Abu Ubaid Al-Qasim bin Salam in the 3rd century Hijri in his work titled 'Book of Recitations'.
