The author of the book is Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Umar ibn Waqid al-Sahmi al-Aslami, known as al-Waqidi. He is one of the earliest and most famous historians in Islam and a hadith scholar. He resided in Baghdad and was renowned for his extensive memorization of narrations, biographies, battles, incidents, notable days, and jurisprudence. Al-Waqidi was well-versed in history.
