The Bezels of Wisdom is considered the greatest work of Ibn Arabi, having profound impact on Sufi philosophy during and after his time. It formalized the concept of the Unity of Existence using a comprehensive Sufi terminology derived from extensive sources such as the Quran, Hadith, Islamic theology, and various philosophies including Neoplatonism, Christian Gnosticism, Stoicism, and the philosophies of Philo of Alexandria. It was also influenced by Ismaili, Qarmatian, Brethren of Purity, and early Islamic mystics.

Ibn Arabi personalized these terms, giving each a new meaning that aligned with his philosophy of the Unity of Existence, creating a linguistic wealth in Sufi philosophy that served mystics in the Islamic world for centuries.
