In the research 'The Arabic Lexicon: Its Origin and Development,' I decided to outline a methodology based on the study of schools. I divided the major Arabic lexicons into schools according to the methodology of each in its divisions and chapters, and I tried to link these schools by extracting the influences of the earlier ones on the later ones. I followed each school historically, addressing the first lexicon to appear, then the second, then the third... up to the last to appear, in order to clarify the features of their development, the common bond between them all, and the characteristics that evolved through effacement, prominence, diminishment, or taking on a new color. I also tried to discern the influences that a member of an earlier school received from another in a later school, if they were later in time and influenced by them, because these schools did not disappear with the appearance of the next, but coexisted for a long time.
