British documents are considered the most comprehensive reference on the Arabian Peninsula from the early 20th century, given Britain's close involvement in the region's affairs and its significant role in the Arabian Gulf, its emirates, as well as Iraq and Egypt. The fifth part of this series contains documents from 1920, a pivotal year in world and Arab history. During this year, the Hashemite-Saudi conflict escalated. The collection includes correspondence between King Hussein and the British High Commissioner in Jeddah, between British authorities in Jeddah, Cairo, and London, and between King Abdulaziz and the British agent in Bahrain and the Civil Commissioner in Baghdad. The issue of the Hajj was a major problem that worsened relations between King Hussein and King Abdulaziz. The collection features approximately 25 letters written by King Abdulaziz to King Hussein, the British agent, and others, and about 20 letters and telegrams from King Hussein, along with some letters from Prince Faisal bin Al-Hussein, most in their original Arabic.

The collection also contains several important memoranda and reports that clarify Britain's true position on many issues, written by British representatives or intelligence services in the region, on topics such as:

• The Ikhwan movement.
• Future control of the Middle East.
• The political situation in Najd.

It also includes memoranda and studies prepared in the Foreign Office on:

• British policy in Arab affairs.
• Changes in the general international situation since the issuance of major British commitments regarding the Middle East.
• Possible negotiations with the Hejaz.
• The future policy of the British government regarding financial subsidies to the rulers of the Arabian Peninsula.

Most of these documents have never been published in full, even in their original language. Only short excerpts have appeared in some recent historical studies. They are published here for the first time in their entirety in Arabic, and perhaps in any other language.
