The weapon of resistance is essentially the free will of the people, long confined by Arab regimes within dungeons and prison cells. It has emerged in Lebanon, Palestine, and more recently in Iraq, after breaking the chains of the past. The policy of overlooking minority rights and ignoring the diversity of religion, sect, and politics was not only characteristic of the former Iraqi regime but is unfortunately a general trait of the entire Arab system. This repressive policy fosters authoritarianism and remains a core reason behind the Arab society lagging in transforming from a tribal and clan-based community into a civil society governed by the rule of law and institutions, where loyalty is given to the nation first rather than tribe, sect, or family. The current system entrenched a divisive awareness, primed to explode at any time, due to governments' persistent suppression of freedom and personalization of state interests, much like hereditary regimes, overshadowing citizenship with the concept of subjects in the state-society relationship.
