This book examines the experience of captivity, which was a new and unique phenomenon in Iraqi society in all its details. This experience was not subjected to transformational pressures and did not produce negative outcomes, as it contained the problems that arose within the community of captives.

The literary results of this experience were framed within a specific narrative context, where the novel's text did not stray from the Iraqi societal sphere despite the physical distance from Iraq. The literary text was not influenced by the local language (Persian), and its vocabulary was not incorporated into the narrative, even though the majority of returning prisoners had learned and spoken Persian.

Al-Ubaidi's study did not delve into the theoretical aspects of the novel as many researchers have, but instead focused heavily on the practical side, considering it the core of the study and an added weight that could detract from its main objective.
