"The Alchemist" is a novel that made its author one of the most famous writers worldwide.

An Andalusian shepherd named Santiago sets out to find his dream, a treasure buried near the Egyptian pyramids. His journey starts in Spain, passes through Morocco, and eventually reaches Egypt, guided by omens throughout.

Many events prevent him from reaching the treasure until he finds a way to continue. He is robbed twice, works in a crystal shop, accompanies an Englishman, witnesses tribal wars, and meets an alchemist who urges him to continue towards his treasure. Santiago also meets Fatima, his great love, leading to an internal conflict between staying with her and continuing his quest.

The novel embodies the idea expressed by the king: "When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it." In this narrative, Coelho revisits the ancient theme of personal journeys: Could our personal legend be the discovery of our right to happiness?
