The Abbasid Caliphate is the name given to the third Islamic Caliphate in history and the second ruling Islamic dynasty. The Abbasids managed to overthrow the Umayyads and monopolize the caliphate. They eliminated the ruling dynasty and pursued its descendants until most of them were wiped out. Only those who fled to Andalusia survived, including Abdul Rahman bin Muawiya bin Hisham bin Abdul Malik bin Marwan bin al-Hakam, who took control of the Iberian Peninsula, and it remained in his lineage until the year 1029.
