Taysir al-Karim al-Rahman fi Tafsir Kalam al-Mannan is an exegesis whose fame has spread far and wide, acquired by the old and young, the scholar, the student of knowledge, and the layman alike. It is rare to find a home, mosque, or library without it. It is the most famous work of Sheikh al-Sa'di, and is widely known as Tafsir al-Sa'di. It is a compilation of the academic sessions he used to deliver after the Maghrib prayer. Millions of copies and dozens of editions of this exegesis have been printed, which attests to its blessed nature.

Tafsir al-Sa'di is distinguished from others by several features mentioned by Ibn Uthaymin, may Allah have mercy on him:

  • Simplicity of language, free from verbosity, affectation, and complexity, as it focuses on clarifying the verses and explaining their meanings.
  • Its attention to matters of creed, explaining and clarifying them, and its focus on refuting opponents from misguided factions with clear arguments and sharp intellect. When interpreting a verse, it explains its implications on various creedal issues and refutes the شبهات (doubts) of opponents, all in a clear and easy style.
  • It avoids controversial issues where the truth has multiple facets, sufficing with the most preponderant opinion and its evidence.
  • After interpreting verses that include the story of a prophet, it mentions the benefits derived from the story.
  • Its exegesis is free from Isra'iliyyat (Judeo-Christian narrations); rather, it avoids them and frequently warns against them.
  • It mentions a number of principles, guidelines, and benefits related to exegesis.

Sheikh Bakr bin Abdullah Abu Zayd mentions that this exegesis (Taysir al-Karim al-Rahman) is characterized by several important matters, most notably that it is a trustworthy exegesis following the way of the Salaf (pious predecessors), combining the essence of authentic reports and sound understanding in a simple, concise context. It is a reminder for the advanced and an enlightenment for the beginner.
