Tawdih al-Talkhis fi 'Ilm al-Balagha (Clarification of the Summary in the Science of Rhetoric)

The science of rhetoric (al-Balagha) is one of the most important tools for understanding the Quran and the Sunnah, and for discerning the aspects of their inimitability. It is frequently used in our daily lives, as people's speech is full of metaphors, figures of speech, and other rhetorical devices, even if they are unaware of these types of eloquence in their words.

The book "Talkhis al-Miftah" by Imam Jalal al-Din al-Qazwini is considered a model for rhetoric books that focus on classifications, often limiting themselves to a single example to clarify an idea. It is rare for a subsequent work in this science to diverge from its topics.

Scholars have given great attention to the book "al-Talkhis," among them the great scholar Sheikh Abd al-Karim al-Dabban (d. 1413 AH), may Allah have mercy on him, whose works are distinguished by their clear language, systematic arrangement of topics, and rephrasing of ideas from older books in a style that is easy for contemporary students to understand.

He authored a commentary on "al-Talkhis" which he named "Tawdih al-Talkhis" (Clarification of al-Talkhis). In it, he relied on the foundational texts of this art, distilled the essence of the commentaries on "al-Talkhis," and made extensive use of categorizations, divisions, and numerical listings of issues to facilitate memorization and recall, while citing numerous examples from the Quran, the Prophetic traditions, and poetry.
