Tafsir al-Qur'an al-Azim by Imam Hafiz Ibn Kathir al-Dimashqi is one of the most famous books of exegesis based on tradition (tafsir bi'l-ma'thur) and is a unique work in its field. Al-Suyuti said of it in "Dhayl Tabaqat al-Huffaz": "He has an exegesis the like of which has never been authored." Al-Shawkani states in "Al-Badr al-Tali'": "He has useful works, including the famous Tafsir, which is in volumes and in which he compiled extensively, transmitting doctrines and reports."
