Sunan Ibn Majah - Al-Fajr is one of the most distinguished, greatest, and enduring books of Ibn Majah, through which he became known and famous. It is the sixth of the six major hadith collections (Al-Kutub al-Sittah) according to the well-known opinion; early scholars considered the primary books to be five: the two Sahihs (Bukhari and Muslim), and the Sunan of Abu Dawud, Al-Tirmidhi, and Al-Nasa'i, to which Sunan Ibn Majah was later added.

It was favored over other books due to its unique aspects, the additional hadiths it contains beyond the five primary sources, its jurisprudential content, excellent arrangement, and the quality of its hadith presentation and conciseness of the texts. Sunan Ibn Majah is also distinguished by its precise arrangement, numerous chapters, and their relevance to the fiqh they contain. It comprises 37 books and 1500 chapters.

Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said: 'His book in the Sunan is comprehensive, well-composed, with many chapters and unique narrations.' Ibn Majah arranged his Sunan according to jurisprudential books and chapters, excelling in his choice to begin with the chapter on 'Following the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him),' in which he presented hadiths indicating the authoritativeness of the Sunnah and the obligation to follow and act upon it.

Sunan Ibn Majah contains hadiths that are Sahih (authentic), Hasan (good), and Da'if (weak), and even a few Munkar (denounced) and Mawdu' (fabricated) narrations. However, the fabricated hadiths are few in comparison to the total number of hadiths in the book, which exceeds four thousand. This does not diminish the value of the book, as Sunan Ibn Majah is a fundamental source of the Sunnah and one of its wellsprings.
