During my academic and diplomatic career, I have prepared a number of studies in various fields of public international law. These studies have been appreciated by my colleagues and students. However, keeping this research within the pages of journals distributed among several scientific research institutions does not make it accessible to the Arab researcher, unlike books that take precedence in libraries. Therefore, I decided to republish them with new research in a book titled 'Studies in International Law,' thus making them available again to researchers in Arab libraries, hoping they will be useful in their research.

The book's chapters include a number of studies I prepared during my university work, beginning with a study on the preamble of treaties—a topic that has not received sufficient attention from researchers in international law, despite its importance in constructing, understanding, and interpreting treaties. This research has received great appreciation, to the extent that an international court referred to it in one of its important decisions.

I then dedicated considerable time to presenting two studies on racial discrimination in international law. These studies focused on racial discrimination in South Africa before the abolition of its system, and on Israel, particularly concerning its nationality laws.

I also prepared a study on various forms of international transport and the characteristics of each. I found that some of these characteristics are common to all types of transport, while others are specific to some. I found it useful to include this research in the book's contents.

The book includes two chapters on the law of the sea. The first addresses the rights of landlocked states to access to and from the seas. This is a complex issue related to the rights of a large number of countries whose geography has deprived them of a coastline and the benefits of the sea, whether in navigation or in utilizing its living and non-living resources. The second study is dedicated to the topic of international straits. It is well-known that straits are of paramount importance for international maritime transport and can cause disputes between their coastal states and the states passing through them, especially Arab countries.
