Allah the Almighty says: {We relate to you, [O Muhammad], the best of stories}. With this noble verse, Allah Almighty addressed His noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). By recounting the stories of the previous prophets and what they suffered and endured in spreading their call, Allah intended several things. Among them was to strengthen the heart of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and sharpen his resolve: {And each [story] We relate to you from the news of the messengers is that by which We make firm your heart}. It was also to show him (peace and blessings be upon him) that Allah grants victory to His messengers, no matter the hardship they face. The messengers before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were persecuted and were patient with the harm from their people: {So be patient, [O Muhammad], as were those of determination among the messengers}. The purpose of mentioning the stories of the predecessors in the Holy Quran was also to serve as a lesson for people of understanding, so that they might reflect and be guided: {There was certainly in their stories a lesson for those of understanding}.
