Researchers in the humanities and social sciences often need assistance in selecting statistical methods appropriate for their research data, answering their research questions, and accurately verifying their hypotheses. They also require help in describing and interpreting the results of statistical analyses. Based on our experience in university teaching and research, we recognize the need among students—especially psychology majors in the faculties of education and arts—and researchers in the humanities and social sciences for a comprehensive, clear, and precise written resource. Therefore, we have authored this book, which is the first part of a planned series of publications on statistics, progressing in level. This book contains a variety of fundamental topics designed to meet the needs of students and researchers across different specializations, addressing them accurately and presenting them in an engaging style supported by numerous diverse examples relevant to our Arab environment.

The book's topics are distributed over nine chapters as follows:

• The first three chapters: Focus on how to collect, collate, and classify information and data, and methods for presenting them in frequency tables and graphs.
• Chapters Four and Five: Summarize statistical data numerically through measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode) and measures of dispersion (range, semi-interquartile range, mean deviation, standard deviation), discussing the advantages and disadvantages of each measure, comparing them, and explaining their use. They also cover standards for raw scores like the standard score (Z-score) and T-score, as well as coefficients of variation, skewness, and kurtosis.
• Chapters Six and Seven: Address important topics related to linear and non-linear correlation, regression equations, and prediction, explaining how to find correlation coefficients from grouped and ungrouped data, and calculate their statistical significance.
• Chapter Eight: Covers the chi-square test, how to calculate it in various situations, its statistical significance, and how to interpret it.
• Chapter Nine: Deals with parametric and non-parametric tests by reviewing some that are easy to compute with different samples and suitable for their data. We present these methods in a usable and beneficial format for the reader or researcher in the behavioral and educational sciences, providing diverse examples to allow for comparison between non-parametric tests and their equivalent parametric counterparts.

Regarding the book's style, it is simplified as much as possible to introduce the reader (researcher) to various statistical methods, their application, and the interpretation of their results without delving into the mathematical details and underlying theories. The book is characterized by its easy readability, abundant examples with explanations, and a variety of exercises at the end of each chapter for self-assessment, helping to reinforce the rules and laws of statistical methods.
