Sony has elevated the FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS II lens to a new level by enhancing essential features while reducing its weight by 29%. This makes it the lightest in its class. The lens boasts a new autofocus system, enhancing speed by up to four times. Its design includes improvements for video, such as better focus breathing and minimizing focus shift, making it ideal for portraits, sports, landscapes, and video.

Staying true to the G Master's renowned image quality, the lens delivers sharpness across the zoom range, aided by the newly crafted 11-blade aperture for delightful bokeh. Its f/2.8 aperture supports low-light shooting and shallow depth of field. Chromatic and spherical aberrations are minimized by ED elements, while aspherical elements reduce distance-related distortions.

Sony has enhanced video capabilities by significantly reducing focus breathing and shift, improving autofocus, and employing a Linear Response MF system for seamless adjustments. A new aperture ring, absent in the predecessor, can be declutched for smoother iris control, offering distinct controls for focusing, zoom, and aperture setting.

The newly designed autofocus system uses four XD Linear motors for remarkably fast performance. Autofocus tracking and high-speed shooting have been vastly improved. The enhanced Optical SteadyShot ensures clear handheld images at long focal lengths, boasting modes for various shooting scenarios.

The professional-grade design includes substantial weatherproofing and weight reduction, making it among the lightest in its category. An ergonomic internal zoom system aids balance. Features like programmable focus hold buttons and a removable tripod foot add convenience, while a focus range limiter improves AF performance. The fluorine coating on the front lens repels elements, and the lens hood includes a locking button with a filter window for easy filter adjustments.

Compatibility with Sony's optional teleconverters allows expanded focal lengths, up to 400mm, while maintaining autofocus efficiency.
