Tripoli of the Levant witnessed one of its most prosperous eras during the time of the Shiite Fatimid Muslims. The standard of living rose, its wealth grew, and it enjoyed a prosperity attested to by Arab historians such as al-Istakhri and al-Maqdisi. Its role grew when the Fatimid Islamic authority was the sole power in the eastern Mediterranean, making the movement of Jihad a pillar of the Shiite Islamic faith. By virtue of its location in the Levant region, it could not separate itself from its environment, the surrounding political geography, and the Arab-Islamic climate it breathed. It is considered a historical museum that embraces Islamic and Christian religious monuments and archaeological centers, which are tangible historical evidence of the reality of coexistence between different sects and its integrated social fabric.
