For a long time, scholars believed that after the golden age of Muslims in the medieval period, the Ottoman Empire grew isolated from cultural and technological aspects, losing interest in innovation. This placed them on a path of stagnation and decline. However, this book challenges the widely held Western view of the Ottomans in the 19th and early 20th centuries as backward and lacking scientific vitality.
