Salman bin Matar, known as the benefactor of widows and orphans, was born in Muharraq in 1848. He learned reading, writing, and arithmetic in local schools. He passed away in 1944. He ventured into trade, initially investing in wood and building materials from India and later expanding into the pearl trade, amassing considerable wealth. He owned farms and palm groves in Bahrain and the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, with his wealth estimated in millions of rupees.
