The nature of the circumstances accompanying the opening of Arab culture to modern linguistics, and the deep conceptual, theoretical, and methodological problems that accompanied this reception, has led to an increased need for critical and epistemological studies, and for evaluative reviews of Arab achievements in the field of linguistics. Despite the importance of critique and review in correcting the path and overcoming problems, and despite the emergence of some valuable studies in the epistemology and philosophy of linguistics in modern Arab linguistic discourse, our linguistic arena is still in need of more of this type of study. Perhaps one of the most important things to focus on at the present time in epistemological studies is to set aside some outdated topics in the research field and focus on subjects that benefit the Arabic language and its culture. This requires attention to the jurisprudence of priorities in Arabic linguistics and redefining the areas of research that are important in light of the essential needs of the language and the nation. Despite the importance of the study of linguistic priorities, studies of an epistemological nature and research related to the foundational premises and backgrounds of linguistic research, both old and new, remain extremely important in our current time. This type of study can benefit researchers in comparative linguistics between old and modern perspectives, help them reach the foundations and principles upon which the edifice of linguistic thought in Arab culture was built in its flourishing eras, and reconsider many of the pitfalls in which modern Arab linguistic research flounders due to the confusion of paradigms and the neglect of the foundations and principles upon which both Arabic grammar and Arab heritage were based on the one hand, and modern linguistic views with their different schools and orientations on the other.
